Join me, Nicky Kriara, at NIKO studios for a one-day Plaster Mold Workshop on Saturday, October 24, from 1–4 PM.

In this hands-on workshop, you'll learn how to make a plaster mold from your own clay design for press molding or slip casting. This process is especially great for carved, textured, or relief designs and allows you to turn one original design into as many tiles as you'd like.

You'll start by rolling out a 5" × 5" piece of clay and creating your own carved or textured design. We'll use your clay original to cast a plaster mold, and you'll take your finished plaster mold home to use for future tile projects. We’ll also go over tile basics, including drying techniques and options for having your tiles fired if you don’t have access to a kiln.

This class is focused specifically on learning the plaster mold-making process. We won't be glazing or making duplicate tiles during the workshop. You'll leave with your own plaster mold and the knowledge to use it to create tiles on your own.
